About One Child

Boy 3

Papa CJ and Subhrendu Chatterji are MBA alumni of the Said Business School at Oxford University who believe that early investment in children displaces negative patterns in a society and is key to sustainable development. This belief backed by a strong passion for children and education led to the birth of the charity One Child, whose mission is to provide for the education, health and overall development of children in developing countries.

Though the Directors, Subhrendu and CJ, are keen to maintain high level of involvement at ground level, they also have a clear understanding of the skills and resources they bring to the table. They also believe in 'not reinventing the wheel' and keeping costs down by leveraging on existing resources and administration infrastructure.

One Child sees itself as adding value by:

  • Identifying suitable projects that are focused on achieving the organisation's objectives.

  • Where possible, identifying suitable partner organisation(s) with appropriate infrastructure and local knowledge to provide local organisation and delivery support

  • Help with designing the project and monitor performance, making adjustments where appropriate

  • Raise funding cost effectively.

This model has been working very successfully over the last five years in Ajagarpara in Eastern India. Since last year, One Child has been gradually expanding its activities, whilst ensuring that its founders' vision of having focused, lean and effective charity is maintined.
